A couple of weeks ago I was painting plein air with the ECOAA in Haliburton forest. My painting buddy @srobbcreativestudio and I decided to put up our easles along the shore of lake Macdonald. There was a cottage just a little further down from us. Shortly after we started painting, we noticed there were a few guys having a conversation in front of their cottage. Most likely they didn’t realize that their voices carried quite well over the water and we overheard what they were talking about. Their conversation went on quite a while and it was kind of hard not to eavesdrop while painting. What’s one supposed to do? Stacey and I both turned to each other at some point and mentioned how heartwarming it was listening to them talking about their insecurities, their fears and anxieties in life. They were so honest and vulnerable with each other about their mental health. We were so pleased to see how far we are coming as humans to be sharing this so openly with each other and not feel judged. Great friends are so important. I decided to paint the fishing guys again in my studio today. “Beneath the surface” 10x10 oil on wooden panel will be available at @deptofillumination 4th annual 10x10 show November 13 to 22.
